On November 21, 2024, Vemric Enterprises Limited achieved a
significant milestone with the commissioning and official handover of the
Lwanda K’Otieno Mini Fish Processing Facility. Now operating under the name
Vemric Fish Processors, the facility represents a pivotal step in advancing
aquaculture in Kenya.
The event, coinciding with World Fisheries Day, was
hosted by the County Government of Siaya, a recognized leader in promoting the
blue economy. Dignitaries such as Governor James Orengo, Principal Secretary
for Blue Economy Betsy Njagi, and Hon. Eliud Oalo, Deputy Chief of Staff in the
Executive Office of the President, attended. Area MP Hon. Otiende Amolo and Dr.
Martin Ogindo, Chairman of the Kenya Fish Marketing Authority, also graced the
occasion.
The theme, “Collaborative Governance
for Blue Transformation and Sustainability Investments,” underscored
the day’s focus on building partnerships to enhance the aquaculture sector.
This moment comes after years of dedicated work by
Vemric Enterprises in Lwanda K’Otieno. The company has significantly improved
harvesting, handling, and processing standards for omena (Lake
Victoria sardine/dagaa), a vital resource for livelihoods in the region.
This achievement illustrates the power of
collaboration among stakeholders to create sustainable, impactful development.
The facility is not just a triumph for Vemric but also for the community, as it
brings opportunities for economic growth and a brighter future for local
populations.
Vemric extends its deepest appreciation to the County
Government of Siaya and other stakeholders for their trust and support.
Together, they are setting the stage for a sustainable and prosperous
aquaculture landscape in Kenya.
